On the road again

We're off to Michigan tomorrow, to the lovely Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. longstrider has a job interview at Eastern Michigan University on Monday, which we're both really hoping that he gets.

There are a million reasons why this would be a good move. I've been wanting to get back to Michigan ever since my mother's accident, and we while we won't be around the corner from my parents in Ypsi, we'll be a lot closer. We would also be a lot closer to fiddlefern and snoopygirlmi, which would be wonderful. And Ann Arbor is just a wonderful city - cosmopolitan, liberal, diverse, tons of neat shops and restaurants and more culture per square inch than a supersized bottle of acidophilus. It regularly makes lists of best places in the US to live. And the job at EMU reads like it was written for longstrider.

Don't get me wrong, I would miss the friends we've made here as well as really regret the fact that we wouldn't be in easy travelling distance of Champaign anymore. And I find the idea of trying to sell the house and move to another state with a newborn baby almost too awful to contemplate (at some point when I have time to breathe, there will be a post about how meltdownish I've been feeling lately due to our attempt to stuff about 5 years of major life transitions into four months - birth, death, grief, new job, new state, new house. It's a bit much to contemplate all at once). But this is the first good chance we've had to leave Indiana, so we have to try for it. So I would appreciate all of your good thoughts on Monday as longstrider attempts to wow them at EMU.
