Well, actually we got back Sunday, rather earlier than originally expected. But that's the end of the story.

Acen in brief:

Good Things:
Actually had time to sit and talk to friends that we're often too busy to actually see at Acen even though we're all working together
The most annoying member of our department last year switched to a different department
We got some great swag from the dealer's room, including a black onesie with a cute bat on it (not at all pastel!), a remarkably cheap stuffed cat bus from Totoro and a plush yeast microbe
I got to enjoy freaking people out with Snow Fairy Sugar, which is just as sickeningly sweet as the title implies. Merely watching the opening sequence will give you a toothache, it's so cute. It's so cute that if it were bottled, it would have produce enough distilled essence of cute to produce twelve Miyazaki movies and another Hamtaro series. It's so cute that it should quite possibly be outlawed by the Geneva Convention lest it put half the world in a diabetic coma.

Bad things:

I got quite possibly the worst sinus infection I've ever had. It was bad enough to wake me up in the middle of the night with searing pain in my cheeks, with nothing to do for the pain except take a hot shower since the hot water seemed to soothe things a bit. Tylenol would work for about three hours, but unfortunately, you can only take it every six hours, so I would be forced to suffer through until I could take more, then have to wait an hour until it kicked in. I made it like this through the better part of Saturday until the combination of no sleep and pain made me lose it. Thankfully, it pays to be married to someone who's good in a crisis, so [livejournal.com profile] longstrider was able to handle things. After a call to the doctor and a phoned in prescription for antibiotics, life was a little bit better, but I was in no shape to work for the rest of the con.

Everyone in charge was very understanding about it, but I feel a bit bummed and guilty about the fact that I couldn't work all of my shifts and finally wound up leaving early on Sunday. For one thing, this may well be the last Acen I work at, since I'm really not sure how things are going to work in the future when childcare has to be added to the mix. So it was a bit depressing to not be able to get the full Acen experience, especially since this was the first year I could have done something besides Masquerade on Satruday night. Lying in bed with a hot washcloth pressed to my face while watching hotel HBO wasn't really what I had in mind. And of course, my Puritan work ethic makes me feel very guilty for not meeting my work obligations, no matter how okay my deparment head and the con heads were with it.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday I'm finally starting to feel better. I'm getting to the point where I'm weaning myself off the Tylenol and I had enough energy today to do some household stuff. I even got some Ebay stuff done tonight, although it was all of the Keystone Kops variety, where I would finish a pair of gloves only to discover I had two right gloves (I'm really hoping that the gloves I sent out on Monday were the correct sets - I could swear I double-checked them) and then switching to making masks only to run out of thread. Clearly this is a sign I should go to bed.
