Near miss

On our coffee table, we have a small statue of two cranes with their wings extended. It's a lovely piece, a wedding gift that's probably one of my favorites of the things we got.

Saturday night, I was leaning over to get something from under the coffee table and wham! Impaled myself right between the eyes on a wingtip.

It hurt like hell, but upon examining myself, I had only a small but deep puncture wound that barely even bled. Given how much it hurt, I expected to develop a lovely bruise, but apparently the hit was so precise that it didn't even bruise the surrounding tissue. So all in all, not that big a deal at all.

But what gives me the heebie-jeebies is what could have happened if I had been an inch lower and gotten one of my eyes. Well, probably I would be buying new glasses to replace a horribly scratched lens, as one of the few compensations for nature giving you horrible eyesight is you walk around all the time with eye protection. But nonetheless, if I hadn't been wearing glasses and had been an inch lower, it would have been hello, emergency room.

That's one piece of art that's moving to a high high shelf once K becomes remotely mobile.
