The weekend in review
Sep. 25th, 2005 11:12 pmWe had quite a pleasant weekend. We went to the Feast of the Hunter's Moon, an event at the local fort which is essentially a Ren faire celebrating the 18th century instead. Really, it's hard to tell the difference - the costumes are different, and instead of royal procession going by, you get military processions of Revolutionary War-era soldiers, but other than that, it's largely the same. Lots of canvas tents, exhibitions of jugglers, Scottish pipers and clumsy country dancers (not all in the same exhibition, although it would certainly add excitement to the country dancing when the jugglers got to the knives and flaming torches) and the typical merchants selling clothes that would be much cheaper if you just bought a sewing machine and learned to use it, jewelry to appeal to the fairies and crystal crowd and the obligatory wooden sword and popgun dealers. Fortunately, we enjoy all of those things and had a good time.
We enjoyed ourselves for an hour or so, then decided we should go as it had been two hours since K's last diaper change and three since her last feeding and despite her deceptive calm, she was a ticking time bomb. So we went home and later spent the evening with friends playing Super Munchkin while our respective munchkins (their three-year-old and K) unusually obliged us by sleeping.
Today, we made it to church, where we heard the second sermon in a row on the Prodigal Son (see, last week the lectionary was on the 11th hour servant, which put our minister in mind of the Prodigal Son as well. This week, we had a guest preacher and the lectionary actually was on the Prodigal Son. So of course he preached on it). Fortunately, there's more than one sermon to be given on the Prodigal Son, although it all boils down to the unconditional nature of God's grace. But that certainly bears repeating, even in close succession. Afterwards, we talked to the minister about K's baptism and went to have lunch with friends.
And now we're at home, having enjoyed staying inside on a rainy Sunday and a baby who has decided that the day would be best spent sleeping. We certainly haven't felt inclined to argue with her.
