We're in Michigan right now. We're at my parents, and the plan was to stay here until Wednesday, then go up to [livejournal.com profile] longstrider's parents' for the rest of the week. Your basic leisurely, virtually free vacation.

That was the plan, anyway.

Instead, we got an e-mail from our realtor last night that we had gotten an offer on the house! Great buyers - middle aged, moving to Lafayette so the wife could work on a history degree, who own a house they don't need to sell and have cash for 20% down as well as mortgage pre-approval. The offer was a tad low, but acceptable, so we accepted. And in many ways, the timing couldn't have been better. This will give us another 5 months worth of living expenses on top of the three we currently have, and we had been talking about moving out of Lafayette once the house sold, since there's nothing really keeping us there now that [livejournal.com profile] longstrider isn't working at Purdue.

But here's where it gets exciting: they want to close on July 25th. As in, a little over three weeks from now. And one of those weeks was scheduled to be our vacation. So, presuming that everything works out and the inspections don't turn up anything disastrous (prayers and crossed appendages would be much appreciated on that score), we will have two weeks to pack up the house and move...somewhere. We're not sure where. We've agreed that Champaign is our first pick. But two weeks is awfully quick to make an interstate move. And there's the added wrinkle that there are a couple jobs that [livejournal.com profile] longstrider has applied for that we should know an answer on within a month or so. So we're thinking about trying to find a short-term rental for a month or so in Lafayette, so we can get our affairs in a little better order before we head out to the wild corn yonder. And we're probably cutting our vacation short because damn, we have a lot of crap to go through and pack.

Mind you, all of these plans have been made in the past 24 hours. Whew, my head is spinning.
