We went and deposited the earnest money check today, so the saga is finally over. Minus, of course, the month of potential showings that we've lost. We were never told the details, but I assume the head of Century 21 called the legal hotline and was informed that they didn't have a legal leg to stand on, because our realtor received a signed release yesterday that ceded the earnest money to us. Hooray!

In other news, Lilly declined to have [livejournal.com profile] longstrider down for an in-person interview, which kinda sucks since the money would have been awfully nice. But on the other hand, it will be more comfortable to stay in academic or public libraries. So it comes down to my interview on Monday in Champaign and finding out if Indiana State wants an in-person interview (and I would be shocked if they didn't). If it came down to getting two job offers (to egregiously count my chickens, given our track record so far), I think I would actually prefer to take the Champaign job, even though it's only part time. It will get my career off the ground again, whereas it will mostly likely languish if we had to move to Terre Haute. More importantly, the Indiana State job is only a year with the possibility of going longer, which leaves us with the significant risk of finding ourselves in the same situation a year from now, only we'll be living in Terre Haute, which, while not the armpit of Hell as far as I know, would have all of the disadvantages of living in Lafayette plus we would be farther away from everything we would want to go visit and would have moved away from all of our friends here. Yuck. As long as we have decent health insurance, I'd rather take the part-time job that doesn't have a time limit in a city we know well with good friends and family to be near. [livejournal.com profile] longstrider can do temp work until he can find something better, and meanwhile, I will have gotten the job experience I need to get a better job when we move again.

Poor K is working on her incisors, and has a bit of a cold to boot. She slept through the night four days in a row this week, and I think she would have done it last night as well if she hadn't woken herself up coughing. But she was utterly adorable this evening, flirting with visiting friends, paging through books and bouncing up and down to the theme song to Orphen. Our daughter, the J-pop fan.
