To do tomorrow:

-Vacuum rugs, sweep hardwood downstairs
-Go to bank, post office
-Go to playground if it's warm enough (the weather forecast makes this doubtful)
-Exercise
-Make two masks
-Knit
-*Late breaking development* Go to Trader Joe's for necessities (maybe stop in at Barnes and Noble to play with the train table if toddler patience holds out?)

I realized I missed a March book in my last post:

Carry On Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse
This sort of book is perfect for how I'm reading these days, which is mostly in the half hour before I go to sleep.  Light, witty little stories that I can finish quickly and easily, and that doesn't keep me awake after I put it down.  Funny and enjoyable.

We're watching the Tick live action series right now.  I never managed to watch it while it was on, but I'm enjoying it now.  I have to say, they did an excellent job of casting.  And it's quite true to the spirit of the comic, which isn't surprising since Ben Edlund was heavily involved (in fact, you can watch episodes with his commentary).

When I watch shows like this, I keep thinking what a shame it is that they were fated to languish on network television when they're really best suited to specialty cable channels like Comedy Central.  Of course, my best memories of Comedy Central are from 10-15 years ago, in the days of shows like MST3K and Duckman (remember, back when it was a funny channel?) so I'm not sure a show like The Tick would mesh very well with it now.  But with the explosion of channels on digital cable, surely there would have been a channel where it would have thrived.  Perhaps the Bizarre Costumed Superheroes channel, for instance.

I went to the Maundy Thursday service at church last night.  I've managed to miss church through almost all of Lent, mostly through getting caught up in the daily grind of child care, working and being tired, and therefore not getting up very promptly Sunday mornings.  But I always do my best to make it to services during Holy Week.  It's the liminal times of the church year that I enjoy most, Advent and Lent, where the church is decorated in the purple of anticipation.  And both of those times culminate in my favorite services, Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday, where we sit with candles lit against the darkness, waiting expectantly for the birth and death of Christ and the change of the seasons.

The readings were from John, which is usually the best Gospel for this sort of event.  I've never gotten along that well with John.  Luke is much more my style, all left-brained and logical, meticulously cataloging miracles and putting them in their proper historical context.  I understand people like that, mostly because I am a person like that.  I'm actually almost evenly split between right and left brained, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather go hang out with the logical people.   And let's face it, John is such a right-brained gospel.  All mysticism and mystery.  Who cares about historical context when you can revel in Jesus going around being all cool and cryptic?  But on nights like Maundy Thursday, you need a gospel that can capture the drama of the events, and John certainly delivers.  His description of the crucifixion always makes me catch my breath a bit.
