I don't know how it'll work with carpets, but you may be able to get away with just vacuuming every day. (We had fleas when the cats were in quarantine in the cellar, and just vacuumed up flea larva (you can see them, wriggling, on a cement floor!) and eggs from the floor till they didn't have fleas anymore.)
