Kate at three weeks

Her cord stump has finally come off, making diapering much easier.
As a result, she received her first real bath last night. She hated it with a fiery passion.
She is remarkably loud, both awake and in her sleep. She makes cute little monkey grunts when she's hungry and long, loud grunts when she's about to poop (I hope she outgrows this, or her dating years are going to be very hard). She thrashes around and grunts in her sleep, and generally gruntily grunts through her days.
She's starting to uncurl a bit. It used to be impossible to keep her on her back because her legs were curled so firmly against her abdomen that she would naturally tilt over on her side. But I looked at her on Monday and realized she was asleep on her back.
She's growing like a weed. At her two-week checkup last week, she had regained her lost weight and surpassed her birth weight by an ounce, weighing in at 9 pounds even. I feel fairly certain that at her checkup next week, she'll have gained considerably. She _feels_ heavier, and her clothes are fitting more tightly, on their way to becoming too small. I suspect we won't even come close to making it to three months in her 0-3 months clothes.
Her eyes are open more as well. She's started having an alert period in the middle of the day, although it can be difficult to distinguish between "I'm alert" and "I'm being kept awake because I'm about to do an Exorcist impression with spit-up/need to burp in a way that would be the envy of third grade boys everywhere/am about to poop three times my body weight in defiance of all known biology and the laws of physics before I then pass out like a drunk at 3am." But regardless of the reason, we're getting some actual eye contact now, although our actual faces aren't nearly as fascinating as our hairlines, or the really good show, the ceiling fans.
She's still in general quite a good sleeper, despite days like yesterday (which was draining in the most literal sense of the word). I was brave today and took her out on my own for the first time to do some errands and she slept angelically throughout, despite the number of times I bashed her carseat against things getting it in and out of the car multiple times. Buying the infant carseat was definitely worth it, even if she's likely to outgrow it by six months - she never would have stayed asleep if I had had to wrestle her in and out of a carseat in the back of a Volkswagen Beetle.
And good Lord, she _is_ a good sleeper - she's been napping for nearly four hours now. Of course, she slept approximately 15 minutes yesterday, so she _should_ be tired.

The advertisement is now over, and I'll try not to natter about it again. I was mostly noting it because once the kid keeps the eyes open... O:>
Yay the sleeping, too!
