I was going to be all productive today and do some painting, but my cold has made me feel asthmatic enough that I decided that much strenuous activity would be a bad idea. Despite that, I did manage to get a number of things done today, including flipping the futon mattress (the activity that convinced me I didn't have the energy to paint), repotting two incredibly rootbound spiderplants, packaging up an Ebay sale, some knitting and of course, the all important serving as a cat bed.

Speaking of cat beds, my mother told me yesterday that one of her kittens has figured out how to open her bedroom door at night. She jumps up until she can grab the handle and then goes in and marches up and down my mother's body for a while, purring madly, until she settles down and goes to sleep. She settles most often on her lap or at her feet, but once it was on her face. And this is the kitten we always assumed was the stupid one. Either we were wrong or the other one is frighteningly smart and just isn't letting on yet.

She was also discussing coming down for a visit some time this spring. That would be awfully nice considering how much time we've spent driving up to Michigan. I realized it's been almost three years since she was down here last. The last time was in July of 2002 to drop the dog off here while they went to South Dakota, a trip which ended with the car accident. Since then, they haven't travelled a lot for obvious reasons. But they took a trip to Chicago in January, so I think my mother found that she enjoys getting away occasionally and that the process of doing so isn't as hard as it used to be. I'm looking forward to being able to have them come down here after the baby is born so we don't have to always take the baby up to them.
