We're home. Actually, we've been home since Saturday, but I've been so tired that my vocabulary has consisted entirely of half-words and grunts. Any attempt at posting would have looked like I ran it through a Caveman translation filter.
The interviews seemed to go well, at least as well as you can tell during these things. You can tell if things go disastrously (they spit in your face and set your tie on fire) or spectacularly well (they offer you the job on the spot), but otherwise, people smile pleasantly and thank you for coming. Nobody spit in
longstrider's face, so I think we can assume that at least the interviews didn't go too terribly badly.
longstrider feels he could be very happy in either job. In terms of living in Pennsylvania versus New Jersey, we both prefer Pennsylvania. For one thing, New Jersey would be hellishly expensive to people used to living in Indiana, and the college in question couldn't pay enough to make up for the difference. So I would pretty much _have_ to get a job. While on the one hand, I would like to find a job, I don't like the idea of having to live on two incomes. The Pennsylvania job, on the other hand, offers a cost of living similar to Indiana, a nice little college town that seems to have some good cultural opportunities, adequate worship opportunities of a suitably liberal bent, easy access to larger cities, a college that is thriving and clearly has a wonderful endowment (they have a program that pays half of the cost of college for children of college employees), and a UCC seminary only an hour away. The only real drawback aside from the distance from Michigan became clear to me when I opened the phonebook and found the map of the evacuation area in case of accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear plant (we wouldn't be within in if we live in Carlisle, but yikes! nonetheless).
So in the job front, we're hoping for a job in Michigan, but Pennsylvania is a good solid second.
( I'm so tired, I've hardly slept a wink )
