Sep. 7th, 2006 09:56 pmWe just spent a very pleasant three days with
coeli visiting us. We see her with the Champaign gang fairly often, but it's nice to have some one-on-one time instead of as part of a crowd. We all went down to Conner Prairie, a living history museum, on Tuesday, which was a lot of fun. It was virtually deserted, so the actors were happy to spend lots of time talking to us. We listened to descriptions of weaving, watched early 19th-century carpentry techniques and listened to a long disquisition against slavery by a Quaker abolitionist hoping to raise money for a printing press so he could start publishing an anti-slavery paper. K was shy around the people, but really lit up when she saw the pigs and sheep.
While I'm not fond of the financial uncertainty of unemployment, the free time is awfully nice. First having the time to go see one of the really great attractions of Indiana (there aren't many of them, so we have to treasure the ones we have), and now we're going up to Michigan to see my parents to make up for the fact that they were in Colorado the last time we were in Michigan and therefore cruelly ROBBED of vital grandchild time. Of course, I'm not technically unemployed since I made quite a bit of money last month, but self-employment has many of the same perks when it comes to making your own hours. I worked extra hard on Monday to be able to take Tuesday off, and I'm currently procrastinating from working extra hard tonight so I can take time off over the weekend. I hesitate to mention this since I don't want to jinx it, but
longstrider has a line on some potential freelance work, and I keep thinking how nice it would be to have both of us working from home with flexible hours, even if it would mean rearranging the house yet again to create more workspace.
